The 2 seater V8 Vantage joined the Aston Martin family in 2006 following it's launch at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show.

Styled by Henrik Fisker and built on the aluminium monocoque VH platform and sporting the familiar double wishbone front and rear suspension, the new V8 Vantage was a smaller, leaner, more nimble sports car than previous Aston Martin models to wear the name, intended to compete with with the 911 Carrera models.

The Vantage was initially offered with a 4.3 litre 32v  V8 engine producing  380bhp at a lofty 7300rpm and 302lbft at 5000rpm, which was enough to propel the 1630kg Vantage to 60mph in 4.9 seconds and on to a 174mph top speed. The engine was dry sumped to lower the engine in the chassis and allow it to sit further back, improving the weight distribution and centre of gravity for optimum handling.

In 2009 the engine capacity was increased to 4.7 litres with an increase in output to 420bhp available at 7000rpm and 347lbft at 5750rpm. This reduced the 60mph sprint to 4.7 seconds and increased the top speed to 180mph.
